Tuilagi, 31, has played regularly for every England coach since his debut in 2011—when healthy and available.

The Sale powerhouse is expected to be left out despite being kept in the 29-man squad on Tuesday. At 14:45 GMT on Thursday, the England team will be announced.

Borthwick's choices in the midfield have been limited by the injuries to Henry Slade, Elliot Daly, and Dan Kelly; Marcus Smith and Owen Farrell will likely once more team up at fly-half and inside-centre.

"I think Eddie Jones is a world-class coach, obviously," Genge told BBC Sport. "But when a new coach comes into any environment you have a bit more of a bounce and excitement, because it is the unknown.

"We've had a reaction across the whole board - it's been quite infectious - of being really excited.

"It is just the magic of having a new person steering the wheel.

With Tuilagi's raw power absent, Marchant's participation will give England speed and dynamism along with a club connection with Smith's Harlequins teammate".
