Mikaela Shiffrin, the 28-year-old American alpine ski racer, has extended her World Cup victories record to 88 by winning the giant slalom in Andorra. She finished just 0.06 seconds ahead of Thea Louise Stjernesund of Norway after clocking one minute and 55.88 seconds across her two races at Soldeu. Canadian skier Valerie Grenier came in third.
This win comes after Shiffrin surpassed Sweden’s Ingemar Stenmark’s record of 86 World Cup victories earlier this month. Shiffrin has also surpassed Lindsey Vonn’s previous record of 138 podium finishes.
In the post-race interview, Shiffrin expressed her excitement about the win, saying, “”I feel OK, this is amazing. I feel great and all these women are fighting in the second run. Congrats, I barely squeaked by that. Congrats to all the women. I’ve decided to come back and do it all again next year.””
Shiffrin also spoke about her plans for the future, saying, “”Just keep moving on. Going back to the US, going to get some beach time.””
Shiffrin’s achievements in alpine skiing have made her one of the most successful skiers in history. Her dedication and talent continue to inspire her fans and fellow athletes alike.
