Emerging as the Champions of the Super Cup
The reserve team of the Lokomotiv-Kuban system has marked a significant achievement in the realm of basketball. They have emerged victorious in the inaugural Super Cup of the United Youth League VTB. This illustrious event was held in Moscow and witnessed the participation of six of the most powerful Russian clubs from the last United League VTB championship. In addition, two teams from Turkey also took part in the competition.

A Journey to Triumph
In the pursuit of the final, the Krasnodar team tackled and defeated the most titled Russian club, CSKA, in an intense match that ended with a score of 100:98. The semi-finals saw them overpower the Turkish team, Fenerbahce. Fenerbahce, participants of the main European club championship – Euroleague, were beaten with a score of 105:89.
The final match pitted Lokomotiv-Kuban against Zenit from St. Petersburg, the current Super Cup holder. The fate of the match hung in the balance until the final seconds, with fortune favoring the basketball players from the banks of the Neva. They secured their victory with a score of 85:83.
Team President and Minister’s Remarks
Andrey Vedischev, the president of Lokomotiv-Kuban, expressed his immense pride in the team’s performance in the Super Cup. Despite acknowledging that their gameplay was not always smooth, he highlighted their consistent determination and relentless fight till the very end.
In the upcoming United League VTB championship, the Krasnodar team will play their opening match on September 30 in Kazan, against the reigning champion, UNICS.
Serafim Timchenko, the Minister of Physical Culture and Sports of the Krasnodar Region, pointed out the success of Lokomotiv-Kuban’s youth team as an indicator of the club’s high-quality selection work. He underscored the fact that these young basketball players are amassing crucial game experience. The most talented among them will eventually join the main team’s ranks.
Impressive Performance in the Super Cup

In the Super Cup of the United Youth League VTB competition, the Krasnodar team displayed an impressive performance. They vanquished the RUS “GTSOLIFK” in the semi-final by 97:62 and triumphed over the Moscow club “MBA-Junior” in the final, with a score of 83:55. Bogdan Bogdanov, the head coach of Loko-2, congratulated the team on their victory and expressed his confidence in the talented players’ potential to make a significant contribution in the main team.
Recognizing Individual Achievements
At the end of the competition, individual player achievements were also celebrated. Two representatives of the Krasnodar team, Mikhail Vedischev and Lev Kuzmenko, were included in the symbolic top five of the tournament. Vsevolod Ishchenko was named the most valuable player, as reported by the press service of the Krasnodar region administration.
