Győri Audi ETO KC Signs Dutch Handball Stars Dione Housheer and Bo van Wetering

Handball’s Rising Stars Join Hungarian Champions
In a significant move that bolsters their roster, Győri Audi ETO KC, the top-tier Hungarian women’s handball club, has secured contracts with Dutch national players Dione Housheer and Bo van Wetering. Both players will join the team in the summer, adding to Győr’s impressive lineup.
From Denmark to Hungary: A New Chapter
Both Housheer and van Wetering are coming from the Danish team Odense, which happens to be the old team of Győr’s new head coach, Ulrik Kirkely. Their tenure in Denmark has been filled with triumph, and their transition to the Hungarian league is expected to bring a fresh dynamic to the team. Both players have committed to a three-year stint with Győri Audi ETO KC.
A Closer Look at the New Additions
At 23, Dione Housheer already boasts an impressive career. She has spent six years playing in Denmark, with a stint at Nyköbing before joining Odense in 2021. An accomplished right-wing shooter, Housheer has a World Championship win under her belt, achieved with the Netherlands in 2019. She also helped her team secure a European Championship bronze medal. During her time with Odense, she became a two-time Danish champion and a cup winner, earning the title of the league’s best right-wing shooter last year.
Bo van Wetering, also 23, shares a similar career trajectory with her compatriot. She, too, has a World Championship win to her name and has won titles in both Denmark and the Netherlands. Over her career, van Wetering has played for teams such as Westfriesland SEW, VOC Amsterdam, and TuS Metzingen, in addition to Odense.
Győri Audi ETO KC’s Future Lineup
Currently, the right-wing shooter position at Győri Audi ETO KC is held by Slovenian Ana Gros and South Korean Rju Un Hi, with the latter’s contract set to expire next summer. On the left-wing, Hungarian national players Szöllősi-Schatzl Nadine and the currently recovering Fodor Csenge hold the fort. It remains to be seen whether one of the Dutch nationals will replace them.
Management’s Take on the Transfers
Endrődi Péter, the Managing Director of Győri ETO Kft, expressed his optimism about the new signings. He confirmed that the team is actively working on contract extensions and is in touch with additional players. As such, fans can expect more announcements in the near future.
The team recently announced the signing of yet another Dutch World Champion left-wing shooter, Kelly Dulfer, further strengthening their roster.
