Julian Nagelsmann set to take the helm of Germany’s national football team

Julian Nagelsmann Tapped as Potential Successor for Hansi Flick
The German Football Association (DFB) is reportedly in advanced negotiations with Julian Nagelsmann to become the new coach of Germany’s national football team, following Hansi Flick’s dismissal. DFB President Bernd Neuendorf and former coach Rudi Völler have initiated talks with Nagelsmann, who quickly topped the list of potential successors to Flick due to his impressive coaching tenure at Bayern Munich.
Should the discussions prove fruitful, Nagelsmann, 36, would command the national team for the imminent international trip to the United States, featuring matches against the USA on 14th October and Mexico on 18th October. Following the tour, Nagelsmann would retain his position as team manager until the European Championships in 2024, hosted by Germany.
Support Staff and Continuity
Nagelsmann is expected to be supported by former national player Sandro Wagner and his long-time assistant, Benjamin Glück. Wagner, previously a striker for Bayern and currently an assistant to Hannes Wolf in the U20 national team, had assisted interim coach Rudi Völler in a recent match against France. Glück, who first met Nagelsmann at Hoffenheim and later followed him to Leipzig and FC Bayern, is likely to continue his role as Nagelsmann’s assistant coach.
Nagelsmann’s Impressive Track Record
Despite his relative youth, Nagelsmann brings over seven years of Bundesliga coaching experience to the table, having stints at TSG Hoffenheim, RB Leipzig, and FC Bayern Munich. However, at the age of 36, Nagelsmann will not be the youngest national coach in history. The first national coach, Otto Nerz, claimed this title when he assumed the role at age 34.
Former Players and Relationships
In his role as national coach, Nagelsmann will reunite with several former players with whom he worked at FC Bayern. These include Joshua Kimmich, Leon Goretzka, Leroy Sané, Serge Gnabry, Manuel Neuer, Jamal Musiala, and Thomas Müller. It’s worth noting that Kimmich and Goretzka have a strong rapport with Nagelsmann and had publicly expressed their disapproval of his dismissal from FC Bayern.
Looking Forward
As the DFB and Nagelsmann continue their discussions, German football fans eagerly anticipate the potential impact of this potential coaching change. With Nagelsmann’s proven ability to lead teams to success and his strong relationships with key players, there’s optimism for the future of German football, as they prepare for the upcoming USA tour and the European Championships in 2024.
