The Iranian national team sings the national anthem in their second match of the Football World Cup in Qatar, after declining to sing it in their first match.
Voria Ghafour, one of the country’s most famous footballers, was arrested on Thursday by Iranian security forces accusing him of spreading propaganda against the Islamic republic and seeking to undermine the national World Cup team.
Earlier, an Iranian politician also stated that the country “will never allow anyone to insult our anthem” after the team stayed silent while the anthem was played before their 6-2 defeat to England on Monday
