Ghana Blackstars Coach Otto Addo apologises to American Referee after losing to Portugal

Following his team’s 3-2 loss to Portugal last Thursday, Ghana’s Black Stars coach Otto Addo apologized for his criticism of American referee Ismail Elfath.
After awarding Cristiano Ronaldo a penalty to open the scoring, Addo took aim at referee Elfath as Portugal went on to defeat Ghana.
He referred to the penalty as a gift and said that he attempted to speak with the referee after the game.
Addo claimed that Ghana defender Mohammed Salisu did not foul Ronaldo for the penalty and that officials did not send the disputed judgment to the Video Assistant Referee (VAR).
At a pre-game press conference yesterday, Addo expressed regret for his remarks and expressed optimism that FIFA would not punish him.
He further stated that FIFA has not provided the GFA with an official comment on the subject.
“We have yet to receive a response (from FIFA), so perhaps this is the time for me to apologize if I was too abrupt after the game. I’m hoping I won’t get fined “.
As a result of South Korea holding Uruguay to a scoreless draw in the group’s matchup on Thursday, Ghana is at the bottom of Group H with no points.
After defeating the Black Stars, Portugal now leads the group with three points. Portugal takes on Uruguay in their next World Cup fixture.
