Canterbury Crusaders coach Scott Robertson expressed his support for David Havili's recovery and predicted his fitness for the upcoming World Cup, after the All Blacks center sustained a hamstring injury. Havili, 28 years old, was forced to leave the field during the Crusaders' victory against the Waratahs, and as a result, he will be absent for approximately two months, missing both the Rugby Championship and the remaining rounds of the Super Rugby Pacific season.

Havili's World Cup Prospects and Recovery Time

The Rugby World Cup is scheduled to begin on September 8, with New Zealand playing against hosts France in the opening match. Robertson, who will assume the role of All Blacks head coach in the near future, stated that Havili's recovery period would range from six to eight weeks. Despite the setback, Robertson remained optimistic about Havili's chances of regaining fitness and participating in the World Cup.

Havili's Test Record and Absence in Rugby Championship

With 25 Tests under his belt, Havili last represented New Zealand in a 25-all draw against England at Twickenham in November. Unfortunately, he will not be able to join New Zealand's Rugby Championship campaign, which commences on July 8 with a match against Argentina. The following week, the All Blacks are scheduled to face the reigning world champions, South Africa, in Auckland.

Additional Injuries and Disappointments

In addition to Havili, loose forward Cullen Grace also suffered an injury during the same game, dislocating his knee. Grace, who earned his first New Zealand cap in 2020, will be out for the remainder of the Super Rugby season. Robertson expressed his disappointment for both players, acknowledging their significant contributions to the team and their crucial roles within it.
