Turkish Presidential Cabinet Meeting: Key Decisions and Announcements

Tech Grants and Free Internet for University Students

The recent Presidential Cabinet Meeting in Turkey, chaired by President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, unveiled several noteworthy decisions and initiatives. A focal point of these announcements was the government’s commitment to empower university students through technological support. The President announced that students would be provided with a technology grant of up to 5,500 lira. This grant is designed to assist students in procuring a phone or computer worth no more than 9,500 lira. Additionally, these students will also receive a free 10 GB internet package for 12 months, limited to one line per student. This initiative is expected to boost the digital capabilities of the student population and bridge the digital divide.

Financial Aid for Newlywed Couples

President Erdoğan also announced the successful completion of the Family and Youth Bank initiative. This program is designed to provide financial support to newlywed couples in the form of interest-free loans. The initiative is set to be launched initially in regions prone to earthquakes, presumably to assist in the establishment of stable households in these vulnerable areas.

Curbing Fraudulent Advertisements

In a noteworthy move towards consumer protection, the President declared a new policy targeting misleading or fake advertisements. Effective from November 1, any advertising platform found to be hosting fraudulent advertisements will be subject to an administrative fine of up to 100,000 lira. This measure is expected to increase the accountability of advertisement platforms and protect consumers from deceptive marketing practices.

The Turkish Century and the 14th Development Program

President Erdoğan, during his post-meeting address, reiterated the country’s ongoing efforts towards building the “Turkish Century”. He affirmed Turkey’s commitment to securing its deserved global position. The President also disclosed that the 14th Development Program, which complements the Medium-Term Program, would soon be introduced. He invited all 85 million Turkish citizens to support this national endeavor, irrespective of their political affiliations. The President underscored that sustainable growth is the shared objective of all Turkish citizens. He expressed optimism that as prejudices are dismantled, the country would see an increase in investments.

The New Constitution Centered on Civil Liberties

During this legislative term, President Erdoğan pledged intensified efforts towards the establishment of a new constitution centered on civil liberties. Representing the People’s Alliance, the President underscored the importance of this new constitution in guaranteeing and protecting the civil liberties of all Turkish citizens.

Teknofest in Izmir

The President expressed pride in the upcoming Teknofest in Izmir. Despite opposition, he praised the evident and commendable enthusiasm of the youth for the event. He voiced his anticipation for the renewal of communal unity at the event scheduled for the following Friday.
