The Romanian Ministry of Foreign Affairs summoned the Russian ambassador to Bucharest on Tuesday, where he was notified of Romania’s decision to suspend the activity of the Russian Center for Culture and Science in the country.
The move comes after the Center’s repeated actions of distorting reality and historical truth in the Romanian public opinion. The situation escalated, particularly after the Russian Federation launched an aggressive war against Ukraine, causing the Center to deviate from its cultural goals and turn into a tool for propaganda, disinformation, and justifying war crimes.
The Secretary of State for Strategic Affairs conveyed Romania’s firm disapproval of the Russian side’s attempts of hybrid attacks and disinformation through the manipulation of reality, urging them to stop such practices. The suspension of the Center’s activity will take place until August 20, 2023, when the administrative procedures involved in this measure must be completed.
The Russian Center for Culture and Science in Bucharest was established in 2015 on the basis of an agreement signed between the Romanian and Russian governments. The Center’s headquarters are located in Lascăr Catargiu boulevard no. 50 in Bucharest.
