President Yoon Suk-yeol pledged to boost weapons exports and secure cutting-edge defence technologies

President Yoon Suk-yeol @President_KR vowed to intensify efforts to increase weapons exports and secure cutting-edge defense technologies as seeks to make the nation’s weapons industry the 4th largest arms exporter globally.

For the first time since taking office in May, Yoon hosted a meeting on promoting defense exports, which was intended to explore ways to shift the industry’s mainstay from domestic supplies to exports.

“The defence industry is a new future growth engine and the pivot of the high-tech industry,” Yoon said at a meeting held at Korea Aerospace Industries Ltd in Sacheon, South Korea’s sole warplane developer.

He said, “With the intensifying competition for technological supremacy, we need to secure technological competitiveness to develop game-changing weapon systems for future wars.”
