President Promises to Build Airport for Komandoo if Re-elected

President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih has made a significant pledge to the residents of Sh. Komandoo, promising to build an airport for the island if he is re-elected for a second term. The president, who is set to officially launch his re-election campaign, arrived in Komandoo and engaged with local residents to discuss their development needs and aspirations. During the gathering, President Solih received proposals from the residents, which included the construction of housing units, water and sanitation improvements, the development of resorts in neighboring islands, and the construction of a 30-bed mini-hospital. Responding to their requests, the president expressed his commitment to fulfilling their needs and highlighted his plans for the next five years, particularly the construction of an airport in neighboring Kudafaru.
Development Plans for Komandoo and Mathikomandoo
President Solih emphasized his dedication to the development of Komandoo and neighboring Mathikomandoo. He assured the residents that the construction work to link the two islands would commence soon, with the support of the state-run Maldives Transport and Contracting Company (MTCC) and their new dredger. The president announced that the dredger would arrive by the end of July, allowing for land reclamation between the islands as promised. Furthermore, he pledged to develop 300 housing units in Mathikomandoo and transform the health center in Komandoo into a 30-bed hospital during his second term.
Komandoo as the Campaign Launch Site
President Solih emphasized the significance of choosing Komandoo as the location to launch his presidential election campaign for 2023. He praised the people of Komandoo for their active involvement in previous campaigns and their fruitful results. The president highlighted the importance of action in realizing a safer and prosperous Maldives, emphasizing that his administration had taken significant steps to improve the country’s conditions since assuming office in 2018. He acknowledged the challenges faced during that time, including political instability, violence on the streets, and limitations on fundamental rights. President Solih reaffirmed his commitment to upholding freedom of expression and other fundamental rights, stressing that every citizen has the right to live a happy life, which can only be achieved by securing these basic rights.
Considering the Last Five Years
President Solih urged voters to carefully evaluate the achievements of the past five years under his administration and compare them to the performance of previous governments. He cautioned against empty campaign promises and emphasized the importance of considering the tangible progress and positive changes that have taken place. The president encouraged voters to make an informed decision based on the transformation and improvements that have been achieved during his tenure.
With his re-election bid underway, President Solih has outlined his vision for the future of Komandoo and the Maldives as a whole. The promise to build an airport in Kudafaru and address the development needs of the island communities demonstrates his commitment to fostering progress, improving infrastructure, and enhancing the quality of life for all Maldivian citizens. As the election campaign unfolds, it remains to be seen how President Solih’s pledges and accomplishments will resonate with the electorate and shape the future of the Maldives.
