Philippine Senate Minority Leader Koko Pimentel and Deputy Minority Leader Risa Hontiveros have expressed support for challenging the controversial Maharlika Investment Fund (MIF) before the Supreme Court. Pimentel emphasized that the MIF can be legally contested, offering himself as a source of information and arguments for those planning to do so.
Meanwhile, senator Hontiveros welcomed the exclusion of pension and social welfare funds as seed capital for the MIF. However, she still backs the move to challenge the measure before the Supreme Court. Hontiveros highlighted the inappropriateness of the fund in the current context and pledged her support for any action to bring the matter to the highest court.
Citing Section 16, Article XII of the 1987 Constitution, which states that government-owned or controlled corporations must demonstrate economic viability, Hontiveros raised concerns about whether the Maharlika Wealth Fund (MWF) has undergone or should undergo this assessment.
