Over 200 candidates, including 9 females, vie for Kuwait's 2023 National Assembly Election

As Kuwait prepares for its National Assembly Election set on June 6, the Ministry of Interior's election affairs department has received candidacy documents from 212 individuals, including nine females. On Saturday, 30 Kuwaitis, four of them females, submitted their candidacy documents, raising the total number of candidates, after one candidate withdrew, to 212.

Candidates by Constituency

In the first constituency, six candidates will be competing, while nine candidates will be running in the second constituency. Two individuals submitted their documents to compete in the third constituency. The fourth constituency received eight contestants, while the fifth constituency received five candidates.

More Female Candidates

It's worth noting that the 2023 National Assembly Election has seen an increase in the number of female candidates. Nine females are running for office, up from six in the previous election. The growing number of female candidates reflects the Kuwaiti government's efforts to promote gender equality and empower women in all areas of life, including politics.
