Olli Rehn Secures Centre Party Nomination for Presidential Candidacy

Olli Rehn, chosen as the presidential candidate of the Centre Party in Finland, expressed gratitude for the support he received from those who signed his nomination card. Rehn emphasizes that the role of the Finnish president should be a guide, a collaborative leader, and a president for the citizens. Viewing his candidacy as a valuable trust mission, Rehn is aware of the presence of experienced and learned candidates in the upcoming election.

The Path to Presidency

Rehn aims to distinguish himself through his experience, values, and his campaign style. He believes that these factors will be a reflection of his potential leadership as president. He also addressed the war instigated by Russia against Ukraine, asserting that Russia’s frozen foreign currency reserves should be used for the reconstruction of Ukraine. Despite being third in a recent presidential survey, Rehn remains confident and undeterred by the lead of other candidates. He states that the campaign is just beginning and that the Finnish people have four months to compare candidates and get to know him. He emphasized the importance of a president having a strong sense of the Finnish psyche, which he claims to possess.

Rehn is clear about his joint candidacy with the Centre Party and the Electoral Association. From the beginning, he was ready to be the candidate of the Centre Party and hoped for their support. He stated that the campaign will be conducted together with the Electoral Association and the Centre Party.

Rehn’s Vision for Finland

Rehn stated that the most important task for the next president is foreign policy and successfully bringing Finland into NATO, while maintaining national defense capability. He also stressed the need for the President to defend republican values, human dignity, equality, and the rule of law with the Finnish people.
