In connection with an alleged betrayal case, the Jagatsinghpur Police have taken a statement from rumoured girlfriend Somalika of Biju Janta Dal (BJD) leader and Tirtol MLA Bijay Shankar Das.
On Friday, a complaint was filed against the MLA as a result of the Orissa High Court’s involvement.
After the Jagatsinghpur police failed to file a case against Bijay Shankar based on a complaint Somalika (29) made on May 13, 2022, Somalika (29) petitioned the Orissa High Court.
She charged inaction on the part of the district police superintendent and the IIC of Jagatsinghpur.
The court had ordered Jagatsinghpur IIC to register a case if any cognizable case is made out before taking up the plea for hearing.
A case was registered under the court’s instructions on Friday and Somalika’s statement was recorded.
Somalika told the press that the police had finally recorded her statement. Additionally, they gave me a copy of the FIR. I’ll assist them in their probe.
“It took the police over nine months to register an FIR. He belongs to the ruling party, things can change very fast,” she argued.
The police, Somalika’s attorney Snigdharani Biswal said, “The statement has been recorded on the basis of the first complaint filed in last May.
She (Somalika) was not recording her statement because FIR was not registered by the police.”
The legislator was accused by Somalika of lying, harassing, and failing to show up for the wedding at the Jagatsinghpur Registrar of Marriage office.
He had been accused of rape by her, and she said that she had evidence to back up her claims.
Additionally, she claimed that Bijay Shankar was running sex rackets to raise money for his campaign costs.
The young congressman, however, called the rape accusations untrue and said that they were part of a plot against him.
