The National Resistance Council for the Salvation of Afghanistan has released a statement recommending a combination of political and military solutions to address the ongoing crisis in the country. The council, comprised of former politicians including former vice president Yunus Qanouni and former Balkh governor Ata Mohammad Noor, is urging the people of Afghanistan and the world to create a collective will and launch sincere political efforts to save the country before it’s too late.
The council’s goals include ending the war and violence, transitioning from the current unfavorable situation to a favorable one, and adopting a new constitution that returns sovereignty to the people. They suggest institutionalizing government power within the framework of a decentralized parliamentary democracy with elected governors, mayors, and district governors.
In addition to political solutions, the council also calls for a military strategy to address the ongoing conflict in the country. They suggest converting deadly armed rivalry into healthy political and civil competition through program-focused and lawful political parties.
To provide conditions for talks, the council suggests the creation of a single umbrella for the main political forces opposed to the Taliban at the national level. They also propose agreement on a joint framework for efforts to save the country and a roadmap out of the crisis.
