Aaditya Thackeray, the head of the Shiv Sena (UBT) and an MLA, was attacked with stones on Tuesday night while on the Shiv Sanvaad Yatra in the Aurangabad neighbourhood of Vaijapur.
Stones were allegedly thrown during an Aaditya Thackeray-led public meeting, according to a senior Shiv Sena (Uddhav Balasaheb Thackeray) politician.
According to sources, Ambadas Danawe informed the Maharashtra police director general in writing about the security lapse during Thackeray’s function and pleaded with him to take appropriate action.
He claimed that the security in this instance has made an unpardonable mistake and that significant action should be taken to correct it.
Maneesh Kalwaniya, the district superintendent of police, told PTI that despite two rival groups yelling slogans, no one had thrown stones at anyone.
Ambadas Danve, leader of the Shiv Sena (UBT) and leader of the opposition in the Maharashtra Legislative Council, tweeted that when they were leaving, three or four stones were thrown in the direction of the gathering in the Mahalgaon area.
He claimed that the assault took place during the public gathering as Thackeray was leaving the location.
We oppose this attempt to incite conflict between the Hindu and Dalit populations, he continued.
Ambadas Danve was cited by sources as saying, “The crowd was raising slogans in support of local MLA, Ramesh Bornare. It was an attempt by anti-social elements in the mob to create a rift between two groups.”
Danve likewise urged that the SP and other police officers be held accountable for failing to provide sufficient security for Thackeray’s event.
