The State Border Guard Service commander, General Rustamas Liubajevas, predicts an increase in illegal migration to Lithuania this summer.
General Liubajevas made the prediction while presenting a report on the service’s activities in 2022.
Although the crisis of illegal migration from the Belarusian side has been contained, according to the general, the pressure from the Minsk regime through illegal migration is not decreasing.
“The pressure from the Belarusian regime remains. In 2018, no more than 8,000 migrants were admitted to the territory of Lithuania, and last year there were over 11,000,” General Liubajevas said.
While the Border Guard, the Ministry of Internal Affairs, and other institutions have worked to contain the crisis of illegal migration, the general believes that the pressure from Belarus will continue to increase.
The situation raises concerns about the potential for increased migration and its impact on the country. The authorities are taking measures to address the issue and ensure national security.
The prediction of increased illegal migration highlights the need for ongoing vigilance and preparedness.
