Latvia’s Language Proficiency Exam Regulation: A Pathway to Integration

New Language Proficiency Mandate

The OCMA has also set a system in place to assist people in preparing for the test. They have prepared free e-study materials and offer consultations for those preparing for the examination. These resources are available to everyone, irrespective of their citizenship status.

Exemption for Pre-existing Permit Holders

The article also clarifies that the new regulation does not affect those who received their residence permits before 1st October 2021. They are not required to take the language proficiency test. However, they are encouraged to learn the language to facilitate their integration into Latvian society.
