Jamaat-e-Islami, a religious and political organization in Pakistan, has announced that it will fully participate in the upcoming by-elections for the eleven Union Council (UC) seats in Karachi that were postponed earlier. Hafiz Naeemur Rehman, the Amir of Jamaat-e-Islami Karachi, said that the announcement of the postponed election schedule is a victory for the people of Karachi. He added that the date of the elections should be kept on a Sunday instead of a working day to ensure maximum participation.
The Election Commission of Pakistan has issued a schedule for holding the by-elections on April 18 in a total of 93 Union Councils of both phases in Sindh, for which nomination papers can be submitted from March 20 to 22.
Jamaat-e-Islami’s decision to participate in the by-elections will increase competition and provide voters with more options. The party has been actively campaigning for social and economic justice, religious freedom, and the establishment of an Islamic system of governance.
Jamaat-e-Islami hopes to gain support from Karachi’s diverse population, which includes Urdu-speaking migrants, Pashtuns, Sindhis, Baloch, and other ethnic and linguistic groups. The party has a significant presence in Karachi and has won elections in the past. Its participation in the by-elections is likely to intensify the political landscape of Karachi.
