Reports. German Chancellor Olaf Scholz and French Prime Minister Elisabeth Borne sign a joint declaration on energy solidarity in order to secure supplies as global prices rise.
Following a bilateral meeting between the leaders, the signing ceremony for the political declaration titled “Franco-German Solidarity” took place in Berlin. According to the joint declaration, France and Germany reaffirm their close ties in the field of energy and their full solidarity in the face of a global energy crisis and “an unprecedented rise in prices” as a result of Russia’s war on Ukraine.
The statement said, “The two countries are thus committed to implementing concrete measures of mutual support and solidarity to guarantee the security of energy supply for their citizens and businesses.”
In terms of energy supplies, the two countries made new commitments to reduce reliance on Russian fossil fuels.
