Hangzhou Asian Games Main Media Center: A Closer Look at the Nerve Center of the Games

MMC Commences Operations
The Main Media Center (MMC) for the 19th Asian Games, located in Hangzhou, China, officially commenced operations on September 18th, 2023. The MMC, which is situated at the Hangzhou International Expo Center, serves as the primary hub for news and broadcasting activities during the Asian Games. The strategic location of the MMC, near the Hangzhou Olympic Sports Center and a short 15-minute drive away from the Media Village, ensures a seamless flow of information.
Facilities and Infrastructure
Spanning an extensive area of approximately 50,000 square meters, the MMC is divided into various sections including the main news center, international broadcasting center, and primary broadcaster operations center. The MMC provides a myriad of facilities for media personnel such as a medical station, a bookstore, and a post office, ensuring swift and efficient services. Additionally, media members can activate their media accreditations at the Hangzhou East Railway Station, Hangzhou Xiaoshan International Airport, MMC, and Asian Games Village.
Cultural Exhibition Area
One unique feature of the MMC is the cultural exhibition area, located in the MMC’s lobby. This space showcases elements of Chinese art, including traditional paintings and celadon. These displays, imbued with the distinctive characteristics of both Chinese culture and Hangzhou, provide visitors with an immersive cultural experience.
Asian Games Village
Parallel to the preparations at the MMC, the Hangzhou Asian Games Village officially opened its doors to welcome athletes from all over the region. The Asian Games Village, which spans an area of 1.13 million square meters, goes beyond providing the basics of accommodation, dining, and transportation. It offers a wide array of services, including cultural and technological exhibitions, medical facilities, and commercial amenities. The Village is also unique for its emphasis on sustainability and the promotion of traditional Chinese culture and technology.
Hangzhou Asian Games
The 19th Asian Games are scheduled to be held in Hangzhou, the capital city of east China’s Zhejiang Province, from September 23 to October 8. The event will feature a total of 40 sports. As per reports, all 45 Olympic committees from Asian countries and regions have registered to participate in the Games. This event marks the third time China has hosted the Asian Games, following Beijing in 1990 and Guangzhou in 2010.
Embracing the Spirit of the Games
Apart from the Games’ operating venues, Hangzhou has embraced the spirit of the event throughout the city. The newly-built T4 terminal at the Hangzhou Xiaoshan International Airport is adorned with Asian Games banners and sponsor advertisements. Streets are lined with promotional banners, mascots, and colorful floral installations, adding to the event atmosphere.
