Gumi Criticizes CBN's Redesign of Naira Notes to Curb Kidnapping as Ineffective

Controversial Islamic cleric, Sheikh Ahmad Gumi, has stated that the recent move by the Central Bank of Nigeria to curb kidnapping in the country through the redesign of the N200, N500, and N1,000 notes is not a viable solution to the problem.

In an interview on Saturday, Gumi noted that terrorists have already mocked the Central Bank Governor, Emefiele, by displaying the new notes in a viral video, which he said was a show of mockery.

Gumi pointed out that the terrorists are people who have grievances and want to improve their image, and that citing terrorism as the reason for the naira redesign will not bring any positive results.

He also stated that the CBN's initial deadline was not feasible and that the government was being clumsy in its execution of programmes.

He warned that if the CBN did not extend the deadline, there would have been an upheaval.

Gumi also spoke about the importance of education, the economy, and job creation, stating that the new President should improve the economy and create jobs to reduce the problems in the country.

He added that security should also be improved and that corruption in the security agencies should be flushed out. He concluded that the government should not take people for granted and should ensure that no child is left behind in Nigeria.
