After the collation of election results from eight local government areas in Lagos State, Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has taken the lead over his competitors in the governorship election.
The results, which were announced by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), indicate that Sanwo-Olu is leading in Agege, Ojo, Alimosho, Lagos Mainland, Ikorodu, Kosofe, Oshodi/Isolo, and Somolu local government areas.
Out of the collated results, Sanwo-Olu received 363,910 votes, while Gbadebo Rhodes-Vivour of the Labour Party polled 154,022, and Abdul-Azeez Olajide Adediran, popularly known as Jandor, of the Peoples Democratic Party received 30,278 votes, making them Sanwo-Olu’s biggest challengers.
It is important to note that there are 20 local government areas in Lagos State, and the outcome of the election cannot be determined unless a majority of the local government results have been collated.
However, with the current lead of Sanwo-Olu, it seems that he is in a strong position to secure a second term as the Governor of Lagos State.
The election has been largely peaceful, with the turnout of voters reported to be high. However, there have been some reports of violence and ballot box snatching in a few areas.
The security agencies have been urged to ensure that the election is conducted in a free, fair, and peaceful manner.
The people of Lagos State have expressed their desire for good governance and development, and it is hoped that whoever emerges as the winner of the election will prioritize the needs of the people and work towards the development of the state.
In conclusion, the Lagos State governorship election is still ongoing, and it is important for all parties involved to respect the outcome of the election and work towards the progress and development of the state.
