The recent announcement of the extension of the mining concession for the Turów lignite coal mine until 2044 by the Provincial Administrative Court in Warsaw triggered the need for dialogue between the Polish and German ministries. The city of Zittau, located in Germany, is one of the parties involved in the ongoing proceedings, which encompass a total of 14 cases. This ruling prompted further attention and necessitated collaborative efforts to address the concerns raised.

The Turów mine, situated near the border between Poland, Germany, and the Czech Republic, has been a topic of contention due to its environmental impact and potential transboundary effects.
