France and Ireland To Resolve Post-Brexit Dispute With the United Kingdom

BREAKING: #BNNSaudiArabia Reports.
According to an Irish statement published after the duo met in Paris, French President @EmmanuelMacron and Irish Prime Minister Micheal Martin ( @MichealMartinTD ) think there is a “critical window of opportunity” to overcome post-Brexit trade disputes with London over Northern Ireland.
Northern Ireland is in a political deadlock as a result of debates over the Northern Ireland Protocol, which was negotiated when the United Kingdom left the European Union.
The agreement preserves Northern Ireland in the European Union but creates a de facto customs border with the island of Great Britain, which is unacceptable to unionists in Northern Ireland who want the province to remain part of the United Kingdom.
Northern Ireland is the United Kingdom’s only land border with the European Union, but it must remain open under the 1998 peace treaty that ended three decades of conflict.
According to a statement made following a discussion at the Elysee Palace, Martin “expressed his gratitude to the President for France’s unwavering commitment with Ireland throughout Brexit.”
