A Historic Victory: Maccabi Tel Aviv Dominates Hapoel Tel Aviv in Derby

Record-Breaking Win in Tel Aviv Derby
In a historic Tel Aviv derby, Maccabi Tel Aviv clinched a decisive 5-0 victory over Hapoel Tel Aviv. The match now stands as the highest win in the history of the derby, a record that Maccabi has set four times. This victory also extends Maccabi’s unbeaten streak against their rivals to a full decade, provided they evade defeat in their next derby in Kiryat Shalom.
Heightened Drama Preceding the Match
The match was steeped in dramatic events even before the opening whistle. Nearly 120 arrests, primarily of Hapoel fans, and a lengthy queue at Bloomfield Stadium led to protests by the Ultras Reds, who boycotted the match and vacated the stadium.
Maccabi Gains Control of the Field
On the field, Hapoel initiated the game well, but Maccabi quickly gained dominance. Dor Peretz scored the first goal in the 22nd minute and followed it up with a second goal 12 minutes later, courtesy of a brilliant move by Milson. Dan Biton added to the lead in the 40th minute, and by the first half, Maccabi was leading 3-0.
Scoring Continues in Second Half
The second half witnessed Eran Zahavi score in the 48th minute, achieving the dual objective of adding to Maccabi’s victory and becoming the top scorer in the history of the Tel Aviv derby with 12 goals. Dor Turgeman sealed the match in the 89th minute, bringing the final score to 5-0. This matched the result of the Tel Aviv derby at Netanya Stadium seven years and a day prior.
A Memorable Victory for Maccabi
This resounding victory marks a significant moment in Maccabi’s history and is likely to be remembered as one of the most decisive wins in the Tel Aviv derby. The match was also noteworthy for the performances of Eran Zahavi, Nir Biton, and Dor Turgeman, who significantly contributed to Maccabi’s victory. This triumphant performance has set a new benchmark in the derby, paving the way for future encounters.
