Egypt Strongly Condemns Terrorist Attacks in Mali, Calls for Global Counterterrorism Efforts

Egypt Condemns Mali’s Deadly Terrorist Attacks

The Arab Republic of Egypt on Saturday put forth a statement by its Ministry of Foreign Affairs decrying in the strongly possible terms the dual terrorist attacks that have recently plagued the north-east of Mali. These grievous actions resulted in scores of innocent loss of lives and a myriad of individuals wounded.

In its official statement, Egypt expressed heartfelt condolences to the governing body of the sisterly Republic Of Mali along with its citizenry. Egypt extends its sympathies to the bereaved families who suffered the loss of their loved ones during this inhumane act of terror. The nation also extends its wishes for a prompt recovery for all affected individuals.

Call to Action against Terrorism

Egypt further made known its denouncement of the reprehensible terrorist activities and prompted the international community to take collective action in eradicating terrorism from its very origin while also draining its sources of financial backing and support.

Mali – A Victim of Al-Qaeda’s Horrific Strikes

In accordance to Interim Government reports from Mali, over 60 victims lost their lives in two horrifying terrorist strikes claimed by the terrorist group ‘Al-Qaeda’. These insurgents targeted a passenger vessel and an army base in the country’s northern region.

Among the deceased, 49 were civilians and 15 belonged to the defence forces, as per the data provided by the transitional government. This alarming situation has led the interim governance body of Mali to observe three days of national mourning starting from Friday.

The Al-Qaeda Attacks in Detail

The violent strikes occurred in two separate scopes – on a boat at ‘Timbuktu’ on the Niger River, and at the ‘Bamba’ army post in the Gao dominion of north Mali.

The governance body of Mali issued a statement that the Nusra al-Islam and Muslims group, a subsidiary of the Al-Qaeda, orchestrated these attacks. The onslaught on the boat inflicted not just human pain but material damage as well. In the face of adversity, the Malian army bravely countered the terrorists, fatally wounding approximately 50 of them, as reported by the same source.
