Leaders in Somalia and neighboring nations agreed to “make the final push” against Al-Shabaab as a broad offensive against the extremists gained momentum.
This is after holding a peace conference on Wednesday.
They discussed a concerted military effort against Al-Shabaab, a group with ties to Al-Qaeda.
The militants have waged an insurgency in the fragile nation in the Horn of Africa for almost 15 years.
The leaders vowed to hunt and defeat the jihadists in their strongholds across the south and central Somalia in a “powerful operational effort” including the four nations and “using the military, financial, and ideological means.”
The time-sensitive campaign will prevent any further intrusions into the larger region.
