Dozens Freed in Russian-Ukrainian prisoners of war were recent prisoner swaps, as announced by officials from both sides.

According to top Ukrainian presidential aide Andriy Yermak, 116 Ukrainians were released, including troops who fought in the siege of Mariupol, guerrilla fighters from the Kherson region and snipers captured in the ongoing battles for the city of Bakhmut.

The Russian Defense Ministry announced that 63 Russian troops had returned from Ukraine, including some "special category" prisoners whose release was secured through mediation by the United Arab Emirates. The statement did not provide any information about these special-category captives.

In the meantime, the situation in Ukraine remains tense, with at least three civilians killed in the past 24 hours due to Russian strikes in nine regions across the south, north and east.

According to governor Pavlo Kyrylenko, two people were killed and 14 others wounded in the eastern Donetsk region, while seven teenagers were wounded in an anti-personnel mine explosion in the city of Izium.

In addition, regional Ukrainian officials reported overnight shelling by Russia in border settlements in the northern Sumy region and the town of Marhanets, which is near the Zaporizhzhia nuclear power plant, which Kyiv has accused Moscow of using as a base for launching attacks on Ukrainian-held territory.
