Sheikh Rashid Ahmed, the leader of the Awami Muslim League (AML), was sent on a two-day physical remand on Thursday by a provincial court in Islamabad in connection with a case brought against him for making accusations against the former president Asif Ali Zardari.
Police confirmed this morning that the former minister, a close aide of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairman Imran Khan, was taken into custody from Murree Motorway. The former premier strongly criticized the arrest.
Rashid’s eight-day physical remand request was denied by Judicial Magistrate Umar Shabbir, who also ordered the government to present Rashid at the following hearing.
