Investigation into Judicial Branch of Norte de Santander
The National Commission for Judicial Discipline in Colombia has instigated an inquiry into the actions of officials and employees of the Judicial Branch of Norte de Santander. This investigation comes in the aftermath of a video circulating on social media that showed a contentious celebration of love and friendship. Central to the video is judge Vivian Polanía, who appears to be receiving what looks like a striptease show inside the Palace of Justice, Francisco de Paula Santander, in Cúcuta.

Controversial ‘Color Party’
Polanía, a control judge in Cúcuta, defended the video’s content, asserting that the man performing the dance was not a stripper but an entertainer from a waffle business that was present at the event. She denied any sexual implications, maintaining that the man’s performance was an “animated” entrance to a ‘Color Party’ celebrating Love and Friendship. Further, she stated that the man never undressed and the boxes he distributed contained waffles rather than any materials related to the Judicial Branch.
The video in question shows Polanía receiving a penis-shaped waffle from the man, who is dressed in an apron and dancing. Despite the suggestive nature of the waffle, Polanía defended her actions, insisting that the event was among adults and she had no role in its organization. She also refuted allegations of alcohol consumption or any irregularities at the event.

Call for Respect in Judicial Spaces
In light of the controversy, the Norte de Santander Sectional Council issued a statement emphasizing respect for the spaces of the Palace of Justice. The statement outlined guidelines for officials and employees regarding the appropriate use of public spaces.
Previous Controversies
This is not the first time that judge Polanía has found herself in the midst of a controversy. In November 2022, she was seen semi-nude and smoking during a virtual hearing, causing a public outcry. Following this incident, she was suspended from her post for three months. However, the suspension was later revoked by the National Disciplinary Commission in February 2023. The Commission concluded that the requirements for suspension were not met, though they did reprimand Polanía for her actions, suggesting they showed disrespect towards her position and the others involved in the hearing.
