Canada and UAE Collaborate for Safe Passage of Afghan Refugees: Over 650 Already Resettled
Canada’s Minister of Immigration, Refugees, and Citizenship, Sean Fraser, recently announced a crucial agreement with the United Arab Emirates (UAE) to ensure the safe passage of Afghan refugees seeking to resettle in Canada. The collaboration aims to provide support and assistance to Afghan citizens who were evacuated from their country following the fall of Kabul and are currently residing in the UAE.
According to the official website of the Canadian Department of Immigration, the agreement entails the resettlement of around one thousand Afghan individuals who are currently in the UAE. To date, the joint efforts have resulted in the successful transportation of 650 Afghan citizens from the UAE to Canada, facilitated through two charter flights.

The Ministry of Immigration in Canada has emphasized that in 2022, they have already welcomed three flights of Afghan citizens in collaboration with the UAE. Minister Sean Fraser expressed determination, stating, “Despite the current challenges and the difficult work ahead of us, we remain steadfast in our goal of resettling a minimum of 40,000 vulnerable Afghans by the end of 2023.” This declaration underscores Canada’s ongoing commitment to offering refuge to Afghan individuals facing precarious situations.
The Minister further shared that, as of now, nearly 32,000 Afghan refugees have been successfully resettled in Canada, reflecting the country’s efforts to extend a helping hand to those in need.
