Argentina and Brazil analyzed how to deepen bilateral cooperation in the field of energy and mining exchange.
Argentina and Brazil analyzed on Thursday how to deepen bilateral cooperation in the field of electric power exchange, the development of the mineral sector and the natural gas sector.
This was agreed upon during a visit to Brasilia by the Argentine Secretary of Energy, Flavia Royon, who held a meeting with the Brazilian Minister of Mines and Energy, Alexandre Silveira, which was also attended by the Argentine Ambassador to that country, Daniel Scioli.
“We will work to increase energy imports; in the medium term, the idea is to grow the industry and add value to mining, strengthening the energy transition in our countries as well as energy infrastructure; in the long term, the idea is to make our countries energy suppliers of global relevance with green hydrogen,” Royon said at the meeting.
Royon said that “Our objective is to optimize the rules and modalities of import and export of electric energy between the two countries, increasing energy security and creating investment opportunities and competitiveness of our economies. That is why we are going to increase electricity exchange”.
For his part, Silveira emphasized the exploitation and processing of lithium, a mineral considered “key” for the energy transition: “I have no doubt that we have a great potential for collaboration in this agenda and that we just need to join forces to ensure that our mineral wealth generates more economic and social development and that we have an increasingly strong and growing energy transition”.
