Abia State PDP Governorship Candidate, Prof Uche Ikonne, Passes Away After Brief Illness

Abia State Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Governorship Candidate, Prof Uche Ikonne, has passed away. The announcement was made in a statement by his son, Dr Uche Ikonne, on Wednesday.

The statement revealed that Prof Ikonne died at the National Hospital Abuja on January 25th after a brief illness. He was recovering from treatment in the United Kingdom but had a relapse leading to multiple cardiac arrests from which he did not recover.

The family will make further details and arrangements known to the public after meetings and deliberations. It should be noted that on Monday, the National Youth Movement of the PDP had warned the national leadership of the party to reconsider Prof Uchenna Ikonne’s failing health.

The Movement asked the party to find a replacement for him, citing his frail health status at the Abia State PDP Campaign Kick-off on November 24th and his inability to recuperate in the past 60 days.
