A Beacon of Change: The Story of Randy Perdomo García

An Unlikely Champion Emerges
In the heart of Peñas Altas, Matanzas City, a beacon of change emerged in 2017. At just 31 years old, Randy Perdomo García assumed the role of the People’s Power delegate in the 78th district. Despite his relative youth and lack of political experience, Randy has managed to make significant strides in his community, tackling numerous challenges and fulfilling promises that have resulted in considerable improvements in his district.
Returning Home to Make a Difference
Randy’s journey began after he graduated from the University of Havana with a degree in Marxist-Leninist Philosophy. With a newly minted degree in hand, he returned to his neighborhood, Pastorita, armed with a burning desire to improve conditions for his community. He began his foray into public service as the president of the Committee for the Defense of the Revolution (CDR), where he grappled with the challenges brought on by harsh weather conditions. This role introduced him to the work of People’s Power, sparking his interest and ultimately leading him to his current position.

From Underdog to Community Champion
During the subsequent elections, Randy was proposed by several neighbors as a potential delegate. Despite his youth and lack of extensive experience, the community backed him, placing their trust in his vitality and commitment to bringing about positive transformations in the neighborhood. He won a significant percentage of the votes, marking the start of his journey as a delegate of the People’s Power.
Transforming Challenges into Opportunities
Upon taking office, Randy was confronted with numerous issues plaguing his district. These ranged from the existence of over twenty landfills, sewage pits, lack of gardens and landscaping, absence of social or cultural services, inadequate access to roads and public lighting, to areas prone to flooding. However, with time, concerted effort, and community collaboration, he managed to turn things around. His efforts have resulted in paved roads, a community cultural house, an art gallery, medical clinics, collective gardens, improved public lighting, and more.

Building Alliances and Overcoming Disbelief
One of the main challenges Randy faced was gaining institutional support for his initiatives. He found that building alliances within the community was pivotal to achieving his goals. As a delegate, he believes understanding people’s subjectivity is crucial to effectively involve them in community projects. Despite initial skepticism, Randy’s projects gradually gained traction, transforming the neighborhood and improving the quality of life for its residents.

Randy’s story serves as a testament to the power of dedicated leadership and community involvement in driving sustainable change. His relentless pursuit of improvement, even in the face of economic scarcity, has resulted in significant transformations in his district. His journey underscores the importance of perseverance and the belief in collective good, serving as an inspiration for future generations of community leaders.
