“The Kolkata High Court has issued a directive to the West Bengal government to remove all unauthorized buildings on both sides of the Behala-Bakkhali road without any further delay. The road that connects Behala in southwest Kolkata and Bakkhali in South 24-Parganas district spans over 100 kilometers across two districts.
The court’s order comes in response to a petition filed by residents of Kulpi in South 24-Parganas, who have been protesting against the presence of hawkers and illegal structures in the Karanjali market area. The state government has allegedly failed to take any action in this regard, despite repeated complaints from the residents.
Justice Mantha has directed the state’s public works agency to submit a compliance report within two months from March 17th. This move is a significant step towards ensuring the safety of commuters and residents living along the Behala-Bakkhali road.”
