Collaboration between Shanghai and Macau Airports to Enhance Connectivity
Macau International Airport Company (CAM) and Shanghai Airport Authority (SAA) have embarked on a pilot scheme to strengthen the positions of both airports as international aviation hubs. The airport operator in Macau recently revealed that the two entities are exploring opportunities for collaboration in a bid to further enhance travel connectivity.
Growing Passenger Traffic and Tourism Opportunities
Simon Chan, the chairman of CAM's executive committee, led a delegation to Shanghai for discussions with Qin Yun, the chairman of SAA. During the meeting, Chan highlighted the exponential growth in passenger volume and aircraft movements at Macau International Airport (MIA). He attributed this growth to the rapid recovery of the travel market in mainland China. Shanghai, in particular, has emerged as a significant source of tourists for MIA, with passenger traffic on Shanghai routes witnessing substantial growth.
Introducing the Shanghai-Macau Express Route Service
In response to the growing demand, CAM and SAA have launched a pilot program known as the "Shanghai-Macau Express Route Service." This program aims to increase the number of flights between Shanghai and Macau, focusing on popular routes. The collaboration between the two airports seeks to provide travelers with diverse travel options while enabling passengers to leverage the extensive route networks of both airports to reach destinations worldwide.
Shanghai Airports Experience Significant Growth in Traffic Volume
Qin Yun reported that Shanghai's two airports, Shanghai Hongqiao International Airport and Shanghai Pudong International Airport, have witnessed a remarkable surge in traffic volume. Domestic flights have already surpassed pre-pandemic levels, indicating a robust recovery. Several airlines are planning to introduce new routes and increase flight frequencies to international destinations, further expanding travel opportunities for passengers.
