The total length of public beaches will grow from the current 21 km to an astounding 105 km. Furthermore, by 2025, services offered on public beaches are expected to increase by 300%.
Dubai’s Continuous Journey of Development
Reflecting on Dubai’s development journey, His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum stated, “We launched the first urban plan in Dubai in 1960. Development is a non-stop journey in Dubai. Dubai will continue to provide the best living standards for both individuals and families.” The approval of the ‘Dubai Master Plan for Public Beaches marks another significant milestone in Dubai’s relentless pursuit of progress and prosperity.
Expanding and Enhancing Public Beaches
Under the ‘Dubai Master Plan for Public Beaches,’ the total length of public beaches will undergo a substantial expansion, increasing from 21 km to 105 km by 2040. This expansion will accommodate the growing population and meet the demands of tourists from around the world. The plan underscores Dubai’s commitment to providing unique beach experiences, in line with its goal of being among the top three cities for tourism worldwide.
Jebel Ali Public Beach
During his visit to Jebel Ali Public Beach, His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum reviewed the layout and implementation phases of the Master Plan. The Jebel Ali Public Beach will be transformed into an outstanding eco-tourism attraction, featuring a range of diverse activities. Mangrove trees will be planted along parts of the beach to protect against erosion and preserve marine habitats. The beach will offer a host of public services and amenities, including cycling and pedestrian tracks, aqua sports facilities, recreational spaces, restaurants, shops, and beach camping areas. A direct public bus route will also be established, linking Jebel Ali Metro Station to the new beach, ensuring convenient access for beachgoers.
Al Mamzar Public Beach
The ‘Dubai Master Plan for Public Beaches’ also includes the further development of Al Mamzar Public Beach, particularly the Creek and Corniche sections. The development project, scheduled to commence in June of this year and conclude by the end of the year, will introduce new public facilities, pedestrian and cycling tracks, and the planting of mangrove trees along the Corniche. The Al Mamzar public beaches will witness the addition of a 4,000-meter cycling track, while 9% of the beaches will be designated for night swimming in 2023. By 2024, the number of services at the beach will double, and an additional 3% of the public beaches will be available for night swimming. Furthermore, by 2025, beach services will triple, and the length of cycling tracks will increase by 20%.
Prioritizing Inclusivity and Accessibility
The ‘Dubai Master Plan for Public Beaches places a strong emphasis on inclusivity and ensuring accessibility for all individuals. The plan strives to provide a smooth and convenient experience for people of determination, with services and amenities tailored to their specific needs. The designs of beach development projects will integrate the requirements of individuals with hearing and visual impairments, adhering to the Dubai Universal Code of Design based on international best practices. Additionally, designated entrances, routes, parking spaces, and facilities cater to people of determination at various public beaches, including Jumeirah, Umm Suqeim, and Al Mamzar.
