China’s first 350km/h sea-spanning high-speed railway to open in E.China’s Fujian.

Speed and Innovation in Connection

Anticipation builds as China prepares to unveil its first high-speed railway stretching over sea. Projected to begin operation in the Fujian Province in east China, the line offers elevated speeds capable of reaching up to 350 kilometers per hour. This innovation promises to reduce travel time between the critical cities of Fuzhou and Xiamen to a mere 55 minutes, significantly boosting connectivity.

Amassing a total length of 277 kilometers, this high-speed railway commences in Fuzhou, crossing through Putian, Quanzhou and Xiamen, and culminating in Zhangzhou. It signals a new stride in the evolution of China’s high-speed railway technology, as it becomes another intelligent railway route to commence commercial service. This progression follows the Beijing-Zhangjiakou high-speed railway and the Beijing-Xiong’an high-speed railway.

Comprehensive Technological Integration

The railway was engineered utilizing the latest modelling technology premised on digital information, which allowed for comprehensive management of the railway’s design, construction, and operation. Advanced tools such as the BeiDou Navigation Satellite System, intelligent robots and environmentally-friendly materials were deployed in constructing cross-sea bridges. In addition, an intelligent command and dispatch system ensures trains remain punctual and efficient, while a big-data analyst system monitors potential weather disasters, securing the safe operation of each train on the route.

This milestone project not only connects multiple cities along Southeast China’s coast but also introduces a swath of tourism sites. Moreover, it forms a high-quality traffic channel linking Ningbo in East China’s Zhejiang Province and Guangzhou in South China’s Guangdong Province with other high-speed railway routes, both completed and under construction.

Preparing a Cross-straits Railway Future

An expert at Minnan Normal University in Fujian Province emphasized the importance of this railway project, stating it reveals China’s technological capability to build a cross-straits railway. He stated that the high-speed railway launched between Fuzhou and Xiamen not only presents a technological marvel but also brings hope to the residents on both sides of the straits for a future cross-straits railway.
