Revitalizing Gwadar Port: A Beacon of Economic Activity Amidst Challenges

Setting Sail: Activating Gwadar Port as a Transit Port
The acting Chief Minister of Balochistan, Mir Ali Mardan Khan Domki, recently announced the activation of the Gwadar port as a transit port. This strategic move is expected to bolster the economic activities in the region, particularly with the ongoing work on the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) projects. The acting Chief Minister emphasized his commitment to ensuring the completion of these projects diligently.
Shielding Marine Life: Preventing Illegal Trawling
Domki also expressed his dedication towards preventing illegal trawling, a practice that severely threatens marine life and biodiversity. Recognizing the need for a collective effort to combat this issue, he has sought the federal government’s assistance in this regard. To further secure marine activities, the Fisheries Department is set to activate the Vessel Monitoring System with the assistance of the Coast Guard and Navy.
Bracing for Elections
The Election Commission has proposed conducting elections in the last week of January, although no definitive date or schedule has been released yet. Domki affirmed that upon receiving a final date from the Election Commission, preparations for holding the elections will commence.

Addressing Water Scarcity in Gwadar
One significant challenge that the region faces is the issue of drinking water. With rainfall being less this year compared to the previous year, water reserves are being used cautiously. Domki emphasized that the eradication of illegal trawling is a matter for the Balochistan government, but they will also seek assistance from the federation for preparedness.

Conclusion
The recent developments in Balochistan, particularly the activation of the Gwadar port as a transit port, indicate a promising future for the region. The ongoing efforts to prevent illegal trawling and the progress on CPEC projects are strides towards a sustainable and prosperous future. However, challenges such as water scarcity need to be addressed effectively to ensure the well-being of the residents. As the region braces for potential elections, it is hoped that the new leadership will continue to drive the region towards growth and prosperity.
