Boosting Bahamas: A Successful Global Tourism and Marketing Mission

Rekindling Connections and Exploring Opportunities
The Bahamas Ministry of Tourism, Investments & Aviation (BMOTIA) has recently concluded its Global Sales and Marketing Missions in North America. The final stop of this mission was Atlanta, led by the Deputy Prime Minister (DPM) and Minister of Tourism, Investments & Aviation, I. Chester Cooper. The mission aimed not only to re-engage tourism partners but also to reconnect with film and production stakeholders. These efforts are set to boost visitor arrivals and explore new opportunities within the Bahamian orange economy.
A Blend of Tourism and Entertainment
In the course of the mission, the delegation took part in several meetings and events with leaders from across the tourism, investment, and film industry. The first of two culturally inspired evening galas featured a film awards reception. This event honored The Bahamas’ longstanding onscreen legacy and pop culture influence. Special awards were presented to individuals, including film producer Will Packer, actor and musician Tyrese Gibson, and former Atlanta mayor Kasim Reed. Their partnership and support for The Bahamas and the Bahamas Film Commission were recognized.
DPM Cooper underlined the mission’s objective to advance the entertainment industry in The Bahamas and to solidify its global reputation. The Bahamas’ quality tourism product, ease of doing business, and renowned global brand have created strong relationships that the Ministry aims to build upon.
Discussing Growth and Innovation
The second gala hosted nearly 200 guests, including sales and travel trade representatives, industry stakeholders, and media. A live Q&A panel discussed The Bahamas’ steadily growing tourism numbers, future growth, and innovation plans. The panel also highlighted the appeal of its 16 islands and the reasons why The Bahamas remains a sought-after destination.
High-Level Meetings and Strategic Engagements
The BMOTIA delegation also held high-level meetings with emerging business entities and agencies, including Delta Airlines, the City of Atlanta Department of Aviation, Atlanta Convention Visitors Bureau, the Metro Atlanta Chamber of Commerce, and the Office of the Mayor Film and Entertainment Department.
Reflecting on the 15-city tour, Director General Latia Duncombe emphasized the importance of key source markets and their value to The Bahamas. The Ministry aims to maintain strong engagement with key partners to ensure industry performance remains robust.
Next on the Agenda: Latin America, Europe, and UAE
The Bringing The Bahamas to You Global Missions began in the Florida markets in September 2022 and covered major travel hubs throughout the U.S. and Canada. The delegation will now head to Latin America, Europe, and the United Arab Emirates to promote Bahamian culture and inspire travel to the destination.
Looking Forward to a Jubilant 2023
The Bahamas is preparing for year-long celebrations, events, and festivities in 2023 to mark its 50th anniversary of independence. Known for its world-class fishing, diving, boating, and beaches, The Bahamas is home to over 700 islands and cays, with 16 unique island destinations, making it a truly enchanting destination to explore.
