Yoasobi to Perform Opening Theme for Monogatari: Off & Monster Season Anime

The popular J-pop duo Yoasobi will perform the opening theme song "Undead" for the highly anticipated anime adaptation of Monogatari: Off & Monster Season. A preview video of the song will be released on May 3 at 8 PM JST, giving fans a sneak peek at what to expect from this exciting collaboration.

Monogatari: Off & Monster Season marks the first new Monogatari Series anime since 2019's Zoku Owarimonogatari. The series is based on the light novels written by Nisio Isin and illustrated by Vofan, which began in 2006 with Bakemonogatari Part 1 and 2. The light novels are divided into two parts: The Off-Season books, released from 2015 to 2017, and The Monster Season titles, released from 2017 to 2021.

The Off Season is a collection of side stories focusing on different characters, consisting of four arcs: Orokamonogatari, Wazamonogatari, Nademonogatari, and Musubimonogatari. Meanwhile, Monster Season tells the story of protagonist Koyomi Araragi's university life in six arcs.

The anime adaptation boasts an impressive staff, with Akiyuki Shinbo returning chief director and Midori Yoshizawa, who previously worked assistant director on Magia Record: Puella Magi Madoka Magica Side Story Season 2, taking on role of director. Character designer Akio Watanabe and series composers Fuyashi To and Akiyuki Shinbo are also returning to the project.

The cast includes Saori Hayami as Yotsugi Ononoki, Yuka Iguchi as Tsukihi Araragi, and Kana Hanazawa as Nadeko Sengoku. Fans are eagerly awaiting the return of these beloved characters and the introduction of new ones in the upcoming adaptation.

Yoasobi, the duo behind the opening theme, has gained immense popularity among anime fans with their previous works, including theme songs for series such as Oshi no Ko, BEASTARS, and Frieren: Beyond Boundless End. The duo, consisting of producer Ayumu and singer-songwriter Ikura, expressed their thrill and appreciation for being a part of the Monogatari series.

Ayase, the producer of Yoasobi, shared, "When it was decided that I would be in charge of the music for the latest work, I was really happy. I created this with all my heart and soul, filled with love for the work and each character that appears in it. Thank you all for your support."

Ikura, the singer-songwriter of Yoasobi, added, "I am truly honored to be able to be involved with the music in the latest installment of the Monogatari series, which has been loved by many people for a long time. I sang while carefully interpreting each of the feelings of the characters that appear in this work. I hope you enjoy listening to it."

The anime recently unveiled its key visual and trailer at the Anime Japan event, generating even more anticipation among fans. With a talented staff, an all-star cast, and the addition of Yoasobi's opening theme, Monogatari: Off & Monster Season is shaping up to be one of the most anticipated anime releases of 2024.
