Extensive Humanitarian Needs Arise in the Aftermath of Cyclone Mocha:
The Commission has responded swiftly to the devastating impact of Cyclone Mocha in Myanmar and Bangladesh by providing €2.5 million in emergency humanitarian aid. As the affected areas remain largely inaccessible, the true extent of the damage is yet to be determined. However, initial reports indicate that the affected population urgently requires assistance in the areas of shelter, water, sanitation, and food.
Highly Vulnerable Populations Bear the Brunt of Cyclone Mocha:
Myanmar’s Rakhine State and Bangladesh’s Cox’s Bazar district, both hit hard by Cyclone Mocha, are home to highly vulnerable populations. Cox’s Bazar district, on the other hand, is home to 1 million Rohingya refugees who are already living in precarious conditions. These populations are particularly in need of immediate support and assistance.
