The Operational Commander of the Police in Antioquia, Colonel Carlos Cárdenas, announced on Friday that two badly decomposed bodies were discovered in a remote rural area in Valdivia, a municipality in northern Antioquia. Although they have not yet been identified, Colonel Cárdenas confirmed that they were not members of the public force. The bodies are currently being examined in the morgue of the San Juan de Dios hospital in the area.
According to reports from human rights defenders in the department, there have been clashes between the ‘Clan del Golfo’ and the national liberation army (ELN) in Anori, Yarumal, and Valdivia municipalities for the past 11 days. As a result, the Army and Police are jointly conducting operations in Bajo Cauca in Antioquia to access the area, stated Colonel Cárdenas.
The identification of the bodies and the reasons behind their deaths are still under investigation. The authorities are working tirelessly to determine the circumstances of their deaths and bring those responsible to justice.
