South Sudan forces Refute UN report on alleged attacks

South Sudan forces have refuted utterances by the United Nations over pending attacks by the Agwelek troops.

The forces’ spokesperson, Youif Paulo, refuted the allegations by emphasizing their commitment to peace.

The UN Mission in South Sudan asked national and local authorities to display caution and commit to peace and dialogue.

Maj. Gen. Lul Ruai, the SSPDF Spokesperson, stated that he was unaware of any relocation of Agwelek soldiers and requested that this reporter contact the faction.

We have signed a non-implementable agreement. He stated that Johnson Olony should explain why he is redeploying soldiers.

On January 17, 2022, Olony and his former ally, Gen Simon Gatwech of Kitgwang Declaration, signed a peace deal with the government.

Signed following the departure of Dr. Riek Machar’s SPLM-IO, the agreement contained several proposals and action items that were to have been executed by mid-2022; however, they were never carried out.
