In a devastating turn of events, a boat carrying migrants encountered a tragic shipwreck off the coast of Mykonos. This morning, the bodies of three individuals, one man and two women, were recovered by a coast guard vessel engaged in the ongoing search and rescue operation.
Desperate Search Efforts Launched to Locate Missing Individuals
The area surrounding the shipwreck is meticulously combed by two coast guard ships, a Super Puma helicopter, and ground forces in a concerted effort to locate any remaining survivors. Earlier in the operation, two individuals were found and provided crucial information. They reported that the ill-fated boat had carried 17 people, including four to five women and a seven-year-old girl.
However, Coast Guard spokesman Mr. Nikos Kokkalas, speaking on ERT, clarified that eight individuals were aboard the boat, indicating a discrepancy in the initial reports. The authorities are diligently working to verify and reconcile the information as they continue their search efforts.
