Governor of Sucre, Héctor Olimpo, has called on the government to take urgent action against the criminal organizations that continue to perpetrate acts of violence, stating that these groups are not complying with the ceasefire. Speaking at a Summit in Quindio, Olimpo expressed concern about the increasing violence in the Caribbean region and the pressure on authorities due to the growing availability of drugs in the international and domestic drug trafficking markets.
The Ombudsman, Carlos Camargo, reported that in 2023, 24 armed actions were carried out by illegal groups, with the most affected areas being the Caribbean regions and the west of Colombia. Regional leaders are urging the government to take decisive action to combat violence and illegal groups.
