UNICEF has confirmed that over two million Yemeni children are in urgent need of therapeutic care due to acute malnutrition. The UN mission in Yemen emphasized that malnutrition is depriving millions of Yemeni children of their health and potential.
They added that with 2.2 million children suffering from acute malnutrition and over 540,000 suffering from severe acute malnutrition, immediate action is required to provide necessary care and support.
The lack of funding for UN humanitarian activities in Yemen is likely to worsen the situation, especially after Under-Secretary-General for Humanitarian Affairs and Emergency Relief Coordinator Martin Griffiths announced at the end of the Yemen donor conference in late February that the UN had raised only $1.2 billion out of the $4.3 billion required by Yemen in 2023.
